New Joint IMBA/CMA Programme Launched by CHSB-UWI and CMA Nova Scotia, Bermuda and the Caribbean

The Cave Hill School of Business – UWI and the Canadian-based society of Certified Management Accountants (CMA) formally announce the launch of a new program that combines the esteemed International Master of Business Administration degree with the prestigious CMA designation.

According to Ms. Nancy Foran, CMA, CEO for CMA Nova Scotia, Bermuda, and the Caribbean “The business community wants leaders with a holistic approach to business. The combined IMBA-CMA program – the first of its kind outside of Canada – provides exactly that. University graduates are offered a uniquely tailored path to help them succeed at all levels in business ... anywhere in the world.”

The combined IMBA-CMA is a two year programme designed for senior management and executive positions and focuses on key areas with regard to accounting, management and strategy. Offered through the blended learning format, which is a combination of the face-to-face and online modality, it merges the accounting experience and professional skills of a CMA designation and the broad business skills of an MBA programme.

The major selling point of the programme is the participants’ ability to gain dual credentials (both IMBA and CMA) in a reduced time period and by completing one body of work. Taken individually the IMBA and the CMA programmes would take 24 months and 19 months respectively. With the IMBA-CMA programme, participants can graduate with both designations within 24 months.

At a special event held in Barbados at Champers Restaurant on October 20th designed to launch the new partnership and simultaneously honour Barbados’ Certified Management Accountants, Dr. Jeannine Comma,CEO/Director of the Cave Hill School of Businessstated “the sharing of minds by the Certified Management Accountants of Nova Scotia, Bermuda, and the Caribbean (CMA) and The Cave Hill School of Business-University of the West Indies (CHSB) to implement a joint programme, is in itself evidence that both organizations are on the same wave length with regard to offering high quality programmes to the market.  We are both concerned with the development of people in the business environment and recognize that in light of the synergies that exist in our two programmes, candidates can benefit from the two designations while covering the same body of work.  This we see as an excellent approach, building on the skills provided by the University of the West Indies in its under-graduates, and an ideal vehicle for providing the business community with a highly trained workforce.”

For more information on the IMBA-CMA programme individuals are asked to contact the Cave Hill School of Business at 424-7731 or at chsb@uwichsb.org.
