On Friday, October 23rd the Board of Directors and CEO of the Cave Hill School of Business/University of the West Indies (CHSB/UWI)officially recognized the launch of a new business unit, the Cave Hill Public Service Institute (CHPSI).

The Institute is designed to the increase the intellectual capital of the Caribbean public sector while enabling modernisation and efficiency in the public service. The focus will be on education, training, development, and research that meet the unique needs of the Caribbean, specifically residents and citizens of St. Lucia, Anguilla, Barbados, Cayman Islands, the OECS, Belize, British Virgin Islands, Guyana and Turks & Caicos.

Dr. Jeannine Comma, Director/CEO of the Cave Hill School of Business/UWI says, “The founding of such an entity will be far reaching in that regional public sectors have long needed a strategic approach in transitioning from outdated practices to organizational renewal, which will position our government agencies to handle the demands of this new global economy.” Dr. Comma continues, “I am enthusiastic that the Cave Hill Public Service Institute will provide the training and developmental support that our public service workers have been most desirous of for some time.”

The vision of CHPSI is to increase the intellectual capital of the Caribbean public sector while enabling modernization and efficiency in the public service. The mission of the CHPSI is to provide education, training, development and conduct research, while serving as a conduit for organisational growth in the public service in the Caribbean.

Both the vision and mission are accomplished via three (3) broad objectives:

1. To develop public sector employees, managers and leaders through academic programmes, short-term interventions for training and development, and research geared toward modernising the public services and enhancing the overall efficiency.

 2. To provide a mechanism through which regional public services can share best practices while managing knowledge and learning.

3. To improve the professional standards within the public service.

“We look forward to seeing the positive impact of the Cave Hill Public Service Institute throughout the region as it strives to bring the most current research and best practice information to the persons working within the public sector,” says Dr. Comma.
