The USAID-funded Job Opportunities for Business Scale-up (JOBS) project concludes on Monday, June 30th, 2014. From its inception three years ago, JOBS has created a major platform through which entrepreneurs and small business owners are able to gain the necessary tools to thrive in the current business environment, despite the global economic situation. The JOBS project is responsible for the successful facilitation and coordination of a host of commendable programmes, including two mentorship symposiums.
The Mentorship Symposiums, led by the JOBS project team in partnership with the Barbados Youth Business Trust (BYBT), have been able to provide support and networking opportunities for business mentors- yet another example of how JOBS has enabled ongoing business development and training in the region. These symposiums were attended by over seventy business mentors working with organizations such as the BYBT, the Small Business Association (SBA) and the Barbados Manufacturing Association (BMA). During the symposiums, there were joint presentations led by faculty of The Cave Hill School of Business-UWI and Mr. Patrick Smith (Executive Director, Office of Mentoring Services and Leadership Development at Indiana University). In an effort to sustain the benefits of the programme, Mr. Smith has created a series of webinars that provide more in-depth information on the discussion topics for those who attended, as well as anyone who is interested in learning more about mentoring.
