On September 5th 2016, The Cave Hill School of Business Inc.- The University of the West Indies (CHSB) welcomed the new cohort of the Post Graduate Diploma in Public Sector Management. The group of fifteen senior Public Officers attended day one of the three-day orientation, at which they received a thorough overview of the programme requirements as well as guidance in research, accessing relevant course materials, touring the UWI’s virtual library and the eLearning platform. They had refresher sessions on contemporary computer tools necessary for their use in this state-of-the-art programme. The participants also received remarks from the Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, Dr Justin Robinson in a lively lunch-time session as they dined and mingled with the members of the Academic team responsible for the management of the programme, headed by Dr Ann Wallace – Programme Director.
Initially implemented in September 2015, the new cohort is the second group to become immersed in the government-funded programme which was specifically customized for senior-level Government officials within the Barbados Public Service. The diploma programme, designed by the Faculty of Social Sciences and CHSB, will be delivered for one year under the tutelage of faculty drawn from the University’s cadre of top quality lecturers, international lecturers and senior, knowledgeable public officers from Barbados and the Caribbean. This is a high level programme for high level people where knowledge sharing and knowledge construction will be the focus as we seek to contribute to the enhancement of the business of government in Barbados.
