MOVING TOWARDS SUSTAINABILITY FOR CARIBBEAN POETS ON WORLD POETRY DAY
The online forum to be held via Zoom on Facebook Live, is intended to stimulate discussion about giving poetry more economic prominence and linking this niche artform with sustainability, particularly for Caribbean poets.
Presentations will be given by Cave Hill School Of Business head and economist Professor Justin Robinson, attorney-at-law and cultural practitioner Lynette Eastmond and cultural ambassador and veteran calypsonian Dr. Anthony “Gabby” Carter. Performances paying homage to literary giant Kamau Brathwaite, will feature Barbadian poets Lashawna Griffith and Winston Farrell.
Sandra Sealy (Caribbean Writers) and Lynette Eastmond (Barbados Creative Economy Network) – the founders of the two online communities of Creatives on Facebook – felt that a meaningful activity was necessary for observing this World Poetry Day, given that 2021 was recognized as the International Year of Creative Economy for Sustainable Development. Sealy and Eastmond believed that it was useful for writers to have access to useful information with a fresh perspective on monetizing their craft rather than only celebrate with poetry performances.
